This week, I became a knit-twit and joined TWITTER! My handle is http://twitter.com/artbyk I also met with two potential clients. The first, bought a small piece of art and I'm pretty sure that he will be a returning buyer. The other one, not so much. Although I had already told this person that I DON'T DO PORTRAITS (sorry to yell) she very strongly asked me to do a drawing of her. Let's just say, it was an awkward time. Today I attended a local Juneteeth celebration, and although I was really there to volunteer--i did hand out a couple business cards. I also ran into a very pregnant old friend, who now owns a spa (was always her dream). Also, I'll be hanging a piece of art in her place this tuesday! I was both flattered & happy at the very generous opportunity. Thanks Alicea!
Origianlly I began selling art pieces I had in storage as a means to supplement my income & as a way to spread my wings. It's also a narcisstic high to know that I have artwork in someone's office or home across the country. I actually went through a period of (clinical) depression when my mother lost the ability to mentally & physically care for herself; I too found myself in a kind of psychosis that hammered down on the depression that was already there. I was finding it really hard to emotionally handle such a huge bottoming out of my life that came along with now caring for my older autistic sister (she lived with my mom before she moving in with me). When a therapist started talking about anti-depressants, I picked up my paint brush. At that time, I hadn't painted in YEARS but I knew it was a great tool to handle all the stress I feel. And so I painted, & painted, & painted. Then one day, I felt better. So I'll keep painting. :-)
